The Museo Storico di Voghera “Giuseppe Beccari” (The Historical Museum of Voghera ”Giuseppe Beccari”) was created in 1971 by the Voghera Section of the National Association of “the Fante” and by its president, Gr. Uff. Ten Col. Giuseppe Beccari, who died in 2006.
It has been owned by the Comune of Voghera since the year 2008.
Situated in a wing of the Caserma di Cavalleria of Voghera (cavalry barracks of  Voghera), it covers a surface of 1.200 square meters. It was created with the intention of building up a cultural institution that could narrate the history of  Voghera and Oltrepò territory in relation to the national and european history, through the strong cultural, civil and ethic tension that has always animated the military and veteran associationism, and that considerably marks the Museum showrooms.
Past the Salon, which is dedicated to the city of Voghera and where conferences, meetings, debates and intense ceremonies take place, visitors can go through eight rooms on two floors; each room is dedicated to a Corp of the army.
These collections are unique in richness.
A very famous item is the Beretta 34 nine-bore pistol used on the 28th April 1945 to kill Benito Mussolini and Claretta Petacci.

The A112 car on which died in 1982 General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa and his wife, Emanuela Setti Carraro in an ambush of the mafia, is displayed too.
Moreover, Italian and foreign uniforms of the Army are kept and mostly displayed there together with hundreds of guns and sidearms, both heavy and light.
In the library of military history thousands of volumes, diaries and one-off issues of military units are kept.
In the archives of paper documents there are letters of soldiers and officers from the front, diaries and memoirs of soldiers and thousands of military and civil postcards.

The collection of military calendars and the one of prints and posters are particularly noteworthy.
The photographic library with rare images of ancient Italy and of monuments and protagonists of the Italian history is the only one of its kind.
The collections of medals, among which there is a very rare one of military badges of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, are exceptional.
Thousands of valuables of different kind complete the  property of the museum: prints, pictures, handmade objects, work tools, equipments and  various military and civil objects which are connected to the history of Voghera, of the Oltrepo’ Pavese, of Lombardy and the whole Italy.
